HEATHER ASTON

Heather Aston is a printmaker and painter. She works out of the Dundarave Print Studio and her home studio in Vancouver, BC. Born and raised in West Vancouver she is an Honours graduate in Printmaking from The Vancouver School of Art (1971), a Canada Council Grant recipient (2001) and a Helen Pitt Fine Art Scholarship recipient(4 years). In 1991 Heather studied at the Santa Reparata Institute in Florence, Italy where she fell in love with the immediacy and spontaneity of making Monotypes. Iin 2001 she was invited to OM Printmaking Studios in Yokohama, Japan to do an artist residency and returned to Japan in 2006 to attend and speak at the openings of the Trilateral Printmaking Exhibition in Nagasaki and Kochi; 75 participating artists from Holland, Canada and Japan of which she was one of.
“Japan had a huge impact on my life and holds a special place in my heart. I made many friendships there during my residency, travelled the country and experienced the deeply unique, artistic and cultural roots of this amazing country. Some of those techniques and experiences continue to be present in my work today.”
Heather Aston teaches printmaking, painting and mixed-media in schools, art institutes and studios. Her work has exhibited regularly in galleries in several Canadian provinces and is represented in numerous collections locally and internationally.
