What areas do you cover?


Our community support teams (Respite and EOTAS) work within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, and our therapy teams work across South East Wales.




How can children be referred to Smooth Starts Plus?


Most children are referred to Smooth Starts Plus by statutory services including children’s services, the local education authority, schools or charities. Please contact us if you are unsure how best to access the service for your child.




Can I pay privately for the service?


Typically funding is agreed with the local authorities, however if you are unsure of how to access this please contact us and we can discuss individual circumstances.




What days are you open?


Smooth Starts Plus work across the seven day week, closing on certain bank holidays only.




What communication will I receive as a family if my child is referred?


Family input is central to the provision at Smooth Starts Plus, as our overall goal is to increase confidence and strengthen relationships within families through understanding the child’s needs in more detail and providing shared opportunities based on the hopes, dreams and aspirations of both the family and child. Every child within the service will have an allocated link worker who will be the families point of contact throughout their time within the service, and will ensure open communication.




Is Smooth Starts Plus regulated?


Smooth Starts Plus is a registered care and support agency which is regulated by Care Inspectorate Wales. Our therapists are all registered on the Health and Care Professions Council, and our support team are registered on the Social Care Register.




What training do the support staff have?


The team have a wide range of training throughout their career with Smooth Starts Plus, including a week long induction based on the Social Care Induction Framework, as well as weekly Continual Professional Development Hours to ensure their skills and knowledge within child development, social, emotional and behavioural needs, neuro developmental diversity, inclusive practice, communication skills, the importance of family and a wide range of associated topics are maintained and developed.
